Makira Ulawa Premier discusses Provincial development aspirations with Acting Prime Minister

The Acting Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Mines, Energy & Rural Electrification Hon. Bradley Tovosia at the Prime Minister’s Office today met with the Premier of Makira Ulawa Province Hon. Stanley Siapu, members of his executive and officials.

The courtesy visit was a given opportunity to raise pertinent issues in relevance to the Makira Ulawa Province’s development aspirations for the National Government’s attention.

Acting Prime Minister Tovosia encouraged Premier Siapu and his executive to express their issues freely and without reservation. He further urged the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government to draw a Plan capturing development aspirations. He articulated, as leaders, “Let’s think big to move things forward.”

The Makira Ulawa Provincial delegation is in Honiara on an eight-day mission to engage in formal dialogue with various government stakeholders and Ministries. This morning’s courtesy call on the Acting Prime Minister was followed with a briefing from the Constitutional Reform Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on the issue of State Government.

The Makira Ulawa Provincial Government delegation also met with the Policy and Implementation Unit (PIMEU) of the OPMC where governance issues are raised and captured including the much-needed physical infrastructure and resources support from the National government and the process of aligning provincial policy with that of the Government to springboard developments.
