MAN SENTENCED TO 18 MONTHS FOR UNLAWFUL WOUNDING
The Magistrate Court has sentenced a 19-year-old man to 18 months in jail for unlawfully wounding his wife.
The accused, Junior Taro, received his sentence this morning.
He pleaded guilty earlier to stabbing his wife in her left and right ribs, and other parts of her body with a pair of scissors after losing his temper during an argument last year.
They were arguing about the adoption of their child.
The woman was unconscious after he stabbed her and was taken to the GPPOL clinic.
She was then transferred to the National Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Mr Taro has reconciled with his wife and paid compensation.
Principal Magistrate Fatimah Taeburi says the offence is serious and an imprisonment is appropriate.
