MEHRD formalizes a Memorandum of Agreement with Save the Children in the Solomon Islands
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) and Save the Children Solomon Islands (SCSI) on 11 April 2024 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing as education partner to progress the priorities of the National Education Action Plan (NEAP) 2022-2026.
The MOU was signed by Permanent Secretary, Dr Franco Rodie and SCSI Country Director Lisa Cuatt witnessed by MEHRD Deputy Secretary Cooperate Services Coldrine Kolae, Manager Planning Richard Adomana, ELF Advisor Joash Maneipuri, Principal Admin Officer Freda Motu, and SCSI Director for Program Development and Quality Fredrick Seni.
The MOU builds on the existing collaboration between both parties through the Education Development Partners Coordination Group (EDPCP).
Under the MOU, the specific areas of collaboration for the implementation of the NEAP 2022-2026 include;
- Strengthening Child Protection and Child Safeguarding in schools
- Strengthening School Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities and awareness
- Strengthening School Boards to improve WASH facilities, in accordance with MEHRD standards
- Strengthening School based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Adaption, Strengthening inclusive Education
- Strengthening Early Childhood Education and Development and other areas of collaboration.
Speaking during the signing of the MOU, Permanent Secretary Dr Franco Rodie expressed that education is everyone’s business, and was delighted that Save the Children Solomon Islands has thrown its weight behind efforts to support the MEHRD provide access to quality basic education for children in the country.
He said MEHRD values its partnership with Save the Children to implement some of the priorities of the NEAP 2022-2026, which includes the areas identified in the MOU.
Country Director of SCSI, Lisa Cuatt, acknowledges MEHRD and its willingness to be a partner in education.
She reemphasized that education is key to the future of children of the country and therefore, SCSI is fully committed to support the MEHRD in implementing some of the activities that are outlined in the National Education Action Plan.
