The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), with support from the Australian and New Zealand governments through the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP), successfully organized and facilitated a five-day workshop from August 19-23, 2024.

The event was designed to foster a unified and strategic approach to information collection, management, and utilization of education data in the Solomon Islands.

The workshop brought together approximately 40 education stakeholders, including Education Providers (EPs), the MEHRD School Services Division (SSD), the MEHRD Teaching Services Division (TSD), and education partners, fostering an understanding of the critical role that accurate and high-quality data plays in driving educational outcomes.

This effort aligns closely with the new legislative framework established by the Education Act 2023 and the Administrative Instructions and operation of
the Solomon Islands Education Management Information System (SIEMIS).

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in interactive sessions focused on ensuring data quality, understanding new legislative requirements, and utilising SIEMIS data for informed decision- making. The sessions facilitated open discussion, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem- solving, ensuring that all participants understand data collection, the verification process, and the roles and responsibilities under the new Act.

The workshop served as a valued platform for discussing and emphasizing the responsibilities of education providers in managing data,” shared Ali Keko – MEHRD Manager: Education Provider
Support Unit. “The insights gained will be helpful in refining our strategies and ensuring that data is used effectively to support educational planning and policymaking.”

The workshop program, featuring daily reviews, open discussions, and question-and-answer sessions, ensured that participants had a clear and comprehensive understanding of the new protocols and a shared vision for their implementation moving forward.

The Australian and New Zealand governments, in partnership with MEHRD, remain committed to aligning and strengthening Solomon Islands' education management practices with national and regional priorities.

This collaboration aims to improve teaching and learning outcomes throughout the Solomon Islands.
