Prime Minister Gordon Darcy says minimal dewatering has been done at the tailings dam in Gold Ridge Mine site.
The Prime Minister made the statement in Parliament last week responding to a question raised by the leader of opposition Doctor Derek Sikua on the current situation of the tailing dam.
“There has been some minimal dewatering done. There are also some evaporation which leads to the lowering of the water level, but as the Opposition Leader has correctly points out, if our rainfall situation continues, you know it might reach that level again.”
Mr Lilo adds an agreement has been reached for an operator to ensure the stability of the Tailing Dam facility.
“We agree on an operator to come and operate the tailings facility, agreed upon by the company and the government so that we continue to maintain the stability and integrity of the dam.”
