MINISTRY CLARIFIED DELAYS TO ROAD WORKS
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development Henry Murray has clarified processes delaying the implementation of the Naro-Lambi road, West Guadalcanal.
Mr. Murray says the delay on the project implementation is due to the non-payment of Bank guarantee of 10 percent from the contractor to the Ministry under the contract.
The Permanent Secretary is responding to questions raised by the Naro-Lambi communities on the project implementation.
“What caused the delay is that there is a requirement under the contract for the government to make advance payments of 10 percent, but the company must also give the government a bank guarantee that it has the funds in its bank account so that the government can release the 10 percent to the company before it can work.”
Mr. Murray adds, his Ministry is committed to implementing the project.
The China Harbour/Solfish Company was contracted to implement the Naro to Lambi road improvement.
