The Malaita Ma’asina Forum, MMF, has again called on the government to announce a substantive post holder for Police Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

Solomon Islands has been without a Police Commissioner since John Lansley vacated the post in May of last year.

Forum President, Charles Dausabea told a press conference yesterday, the post urgently needs a substantive holder as elections are looming.

“Five to six weeks ago the committee conducted a screening process of the candidates. We are facing a national election coming up and we want a substantive post holder to be in place because this is very important for the country, so I’d like to call on the Prime Minister to make the appointment as the nation wants it done. Just look at what’s coming out on media, ill-disciplined police force, all these are symptoms of an unhealthy police force.”

SIBC News understands the Malaita Masina Forum had previously said it will only support a local candidate, or a British National for the post.
