MSG reaffirms commitment on election observation mission

The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to observing the Joint Election in Solomon Islands.

MSG Secretariat Observer Mission Team Leader, Jeanette Bolenga made the assurance during an interview with SIBC News today.

Composed of 7 officials from MSG states, the team is currently confirmed to observe election processes across Honiara City and Gizo-Kolombangara Constituency.

Bolenga emphasized, the MSG leadership intends to strengthen collaboration and partnership, including democracy and electoral institutions in Melanesia.

She explains, the team has begun observing preparations and will perform its observer duties until the release of election results.

” We have observed some preparations and will be here for the opening of the polls tomorrow.”

“We are observing the voting process, counting process, completion of election administration at polling stations, and we will also be here for the results process after the elections.”

She adds, election observer missions enables MSG countries to learn from each other and allows them to identify methods to improve democratic election processes.

“ As members of the MSG, we are passionate about being here… We are Melanesia, and we know our situation best,” she explained.

The MSG observer team encourages all registered voters across the country to cast their ballots at the polling stations tomorrow.

SIBC News understands,  286 domestic and international observers are confirmed to observe the 2024 Joint Elections.
