New contracts awarded for west Honiara unsealed roads

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) is pleased to announce the awarding of new contracts to local civil contractors for unsealed roads and specific and routine maintenance works for the West Honiara Constituency.

These contracts were originally scheduled to begin last year but faced delays due to various circumstances. However, after thorough review and approval by the Central Tender Board, we are excited to move forward with these much-needed improvements this year.

“This will be a relief for West Honiara community members and local businesses, as these maintenance contracts have finally been approved.

“We will continue to supervise these contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards, quality control, and adherence to contract specifications,” MID stated.

Funds for this road maintenance are sourced from the government Enhanced Infrastructure Program aligning with priorities of the National Transport Plan 2017-2036.

Meanwhile, the ongoing Land and Maritime Connectivity Project at the West Honiara Highway (White River to Town Ground Roundabout) is expected to commence asphalt laying this month, with the overall road section anticipated for completion by December.

Routine maintenance on unsealed roads in Central and East Honiara is also underway, as the civil team closely monitors contractors to ensure proactive service delivery and efficient execution of duties.
