NO TSUNAMI THREAT FOR SOLOMON ISLANDS: MET SERVICE
A ‘No Tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands’ statement has been issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services this afternoon.
The statement was issued following an undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.9 which occurred at 3:12 pm today.
The quake occurred near 52.4 kilometers south-southwest of Gatokae Island, Western Province or west of Guadalcanal island on a bearing of Latitude 9.3 degrees South and Longitude 158.1 degrees East.
The Met office says there is no Tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands, but such magnitudes can cause unusual sea currents.
It adds, no further updates will be issued unless the situation changes.
