Opposition Leader welcomes Pacific athletes to Solomon Islands
Leader of Opposition Hon Matthew Wale has welcomed all the Pacific Islands athletes and delegates for the Pacific Games in Honiara.
Pacific islands athletes and officials have started arriving into the country this week with more arriving in the coming days.
In a statement today, Hon Wale said it is indeed a historic occasion for the country to host the biggest sporting event in the region.
“I welcome all the pacific athletes and delegates that have started arriving in Honiara and others that will be arriving in the next few days. I hope you will also enjoy the hospitality and friendliness of our people,” he said.
He said the Games is more than just a sporting event but it also reflects a united pacific region.
The Opposition Leader also encouraged all Solomon Islanders to embrace the moment and to treat our pacific families with respect.
“I encourage all Solomon Islanders to treat our visitors with respect and to make them feel at home,” he said.
Hon Wale has also extended his best wishes to Team Solomon.
He said the Government has placed a mammoth task for our athletes to win 40 gold medals.
Hon Wale said Team Solomon athletes must take pride in representing their people and country.
“I encourage our athletes to excel and beat the government’s 40 gold medal target,” he said.
