OPPOSITION QUESTIONS DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENTS
The Parliamentary Opposition Group wants the Government to confirm whether there have been any appointments made to our diplomatic offices overseas.
The Opposition Group says it understands the country’s diplomatic offices in Taiwan and Canberra have been left vacant whilst there are plans to replace the head of mission in New York.
The statement says the Opposition Group understands names of three candidates have been prematurely released in the media which calls for the Government to confirm the posting of the candidates.
It calls on the Government to confirm or deny this or better still inform the nation on the appointments’ progress.
The Opposition says, it is important that political nepotism and favor should not influence the appointments – only on merit.
It says the Government must also take the right approach by going through the right process to appoint our overseas diplomats including scrutiny by the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee so the best possible candidates are chosen.
