The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has deployed a number of Police Response TEAM (PRT) officers to investigate a gun shooting incidents in Mono Island, Western Province.

The officers were deployed today.

Reports reaching SIBC News this week state unknown armed men who supported logging operations in Mono threatened villagers by firing shots from their guns after an argument with landowners on Tuesday.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast told his weekly press conference today, a number of police officers are already on the ground to monitor the situation.

He said the Police Response Unit will be deployed to Mono islands by patrol boat to begin an investigation into the matter.

“We received a report of that and we had officers on the ground in Mono recently and there’s clearly some issues on Mono and the Shortlands more broadly that need attention and we have the patrol boat deploying to that location today with officers to start investigating those matters.”
