PARLIAMENT JOINED PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE NETWORK
The National Parliament of Solomon Islands has joined seven other Pacific Island Legislatures to establish a Public Accounts Committees network in a recent meeting in Wellington, New Zealand.
A statement from the Parliament’s Media Unit says, members of the network include – Cook Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.
The network is the newest to have joined other PAC Networks and Associations amongst Commonwealth Parliaments around the world.
The aim of the network is to improve the capacity of Pacific parliaments to hold governments to account for their use and
management of public finances.
The statement says this may contribute to a better public administration and greater public confidence in government institutions.
Solomon Islands representatives at the event were the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Hon. Rick Hou and PAC Secretary Mrs. Jasmine Waleafea.
