With the ground-breaking of its new Regional Fisheries Surveillance Centre, the Honiara based Forum Fisheries Agency, FFA, has added another chapter of success to its already long list of successes.
Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele MP was FFA’s guest of honour for the ground-breaking ceremony.
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Manele congratulate the FFA for the transformational and empowering initiative.
“With the new Centre, I have no doubt that the FFA will continue to grow from strength to strength in addressing maritime security threats which is a key priority for our Leaders, our people, and our region”, Prime Minister Manele underscored.
He adds, upon the completion and operation of the new Regional Fisheries Surveillance Centre, FFA will have a brand new, world standard, state-of-the-art facility for the region’s surveillance capability on its fishery that will rival any similar institution anyway in the world.
The new facility is expected to extend the reach and capacity of the Centre to address Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated, fishing with further opportunities for capacity building and collaboration with members and regional security related agencies on broader maritime security threats.
The Prime Minister also calls on development partners to assist transform FFA’s vision to lift the standard of the region’s fisheries surveillance capacity for the benefit of the region and peoples.
