PM SOGAVARE RETURNED AFTER COLOURFUL UNGA
Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare returns today after a colourful participation at the United Nation’s General Assembly.
The Prime Minister was out attending the United Nation’s 71st General Assembly at New York.
A government statement confirms this.
Meanwhile, the statement says the 71st UNGA has been an extra-ordinary one for Solomon Islands participation as apart from the presentation of the country’s national address and attendance of UNGA side events, the country assumed the role as a Vice-President at the summit.
This vice-presidency role saw Prime Minister Sogavare and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon Milner Tozaka chair various sessions of the General Assembly debate sessions.
The Sogavare-initiated Pacific Coalition on West Papua also had considerable impact at the 71st UNGA where leaders of all six member countries expressed human rights abuse concerns on West Papua.
