Police arrest suspect in 20s for alleged murder in Honiara

A suspect in his 20s has been arrested for the allegation of murder following a stabbing incident at Gilbert camp area in Honiara early this week.

It was alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased with a short knife on his neck after an argument broke out between them. 

The motive behind the stabbing incident is still under police investigation.

The deceased, who was in his 30s, was rushed to the National Referral Hospital and pronounced dead by the medical authorities.

The National Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are currently investigating the alleged incident.

Assistant Commissioner for Crime and Intelligence, Ms. Patricia Leta said police are appealing to relatives and friends of another suspect to surrender to police for his safety.

“I appeal to both parties not to take the laws into your own hands as the matter is now with the police and also appeal to the public to support police with any information you know regarding the murder incident,” Ms Leta said.

The RSIPF shared condolences with the grieving family, friends and relatives of the deceased for the great loss of their loved one.
