POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCE
The Magistrates Court yesterday sentenced a police officer for a traffic offence that caused the death of a girl in 2011.
Police officer Rex U’upwe of Makira Ulawa province was convicted for reckless and dangerous driving, and endangering the safety of a person travelling in a vehicle.
Principal Magistrate Ricky Iomea yesterday says he is satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty.
Rex was driving a white Corolla car when it collided with a pickup truck at Mamara road West Guadalcanal, in March 2011.
A female sitting at the back tray of the pick-up truck was thrown out of the truck during the collision and died.
Mr U’upwe was remanded in custody after his conviction.
The Court will hear his sentencing submissions next month.
