More than 30 Royal Solomon Islands Police Force officers have been deployed to the Shortland islands Tuesday this week on a joint border operation with their Bougainville counterparts.

Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga revealed this.

She adds, the joint border operation is assisted by RAMSI’s
Participating Police Force officers.

“We have deployed more than 30 police officers to the Shortland islands on Tuesday. This operation involves the RSIPF, PPF or Participating Police Force, we also include members from the Bougainvillian police so that we can come together to try and collaborate in looking at border issues. As you’ve already reported in the papers and on the radio this issue has brought us concerns and that’s why we are conducting this joint operation to assist our communities at the border area.”

SIBC News understands, police have recently confiscated firearms at the border area following threats received by Mono community members in the Shortland islands from unknown assailants.
