PRIME MINISTER LILO ON A THREE-LEGGED OVERSEAS TRIP

Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has left the country today on a three-legged overseas trip.

A Government statement confirms Mr Lilo leaves for Cuba where he will officially open the country’s new embassy in Havana before attending the Pacific Islands Forum, PIF, Meeting in Palau at the end of this month.

The Solomon Islands Mission in Havana has been operational since last year and is currently headed by Ambassador Simeon Bouro.

Amongst the major decisions to be taken by the leaders is the appointment of the new Secretary-General of PIF.

Solomon Islander Dr. Jimmy Rodgers is one of the candidates for the position.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Lilo is expected to meet with regional leaders as well as development partners in Palau.

He will conclude his trip in Jakarta, Indonesia, to officially open the country’s new embassy designated for the newly appointed Ambassador Salana Kalu, who left on Friday to take up his new role and prepare the office for the opening by Prime Minister Lilo.

Prime Minister Lilo and his seven-member team will return early next month.
