Public demands justice after Police arrest person and seize suspicious vehicle linked to alleged abduction incidents in Honiara

Members of the public and relatives of alleged child abduction victims in Honiara are demanding justice after police arrested a person in relation to these incidents in Honiara today.

They assembled in front of the Honiara Central Police station demanding those responsible to face justice.

The suspect was the driver of the suspicious vehicle allegedly driving around attempting to abduct children.

SIBC was on the scene and witnessed the large crowd urging for justice.

When asked about the situation, many people present, especially relatives, call for immediate action against those involved. 

Deputy Police Commissioner for National Security Ian Vaevaso told the local media that the arrested individual is currently being questioned.

Police do not confirm whether the person was charged for offenses related to the incidents being questioned on.

“We are investigating the situation and will keep the public informed as soon as we have more details.”

“While there is no need to panic, we encourage everyone to take extra precautions,” Vaevaso said.

He reassured the public that the police are prioritizing this issue and have plans in place to boost safety measures across schools and neighborhoods.

Vaevaso indicated that efforts are ongoing. “Very soon, we will have more arrests,” he mentioned.

He highlighted the importance of public awareness, urging everyone to take responsibility for their safety and that of others.

“Business as usual,”he stated, advising the public to maintain normal activities while being cautious.

He encouraged the community to support police efforts by providing information and working together to prevent incidents.

“Not every police officer is everywhere,” he noted, highlighting the importance of community vigilance.

He said as the investigation unfolds, the RSIPF urges the public to report any suspicious behavior by dialing 2266, 39608, 1363, or 36201. 

Residents can also visit the nearest police station or approach visible police officers to report any incidents they witness.

Vaevaso reassured the community of the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents in Honiara and maintaining a visible presence in the area.

In light of the growing concerns, many schools in Honiara closed early as parents rushed to ensure their children’s safety.

Social media has been alive with information regarding the alleged abductions, prompting heightened vigilance within the community.
