QUAKE BUT NO TSUNAMI THREAT
An undersea earthquake struck near Makira-Ulawa Province this morning, but there was no threat of a tsunami.
The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service issued the No Tsunami Threat notice for the country just after 11am this morning.
The undersea earthquake, which measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, had struck at 11am.
It struck about a hundred and 76 kilometres East-Southeast of Kirakira, Makira Province.
In the no tsunami threat notice, the Meteorological Service said no further updates will be issued unless the situation changes.
SIBC News understands the Meteorological Service had issued a No Tsunami Threat notice earlier in the morning after an undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred at 8:45am this morning.
The earlier earthquake was also located East-Southeast of Kirakira, Makira Province.
