The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has reassured the public that it still maintains professionalism.

This followed an incident in which a police officer was allegedly bribed by a bus driver after his bus was arrested for a defected park light in Honiara recently.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast told his weekly media conference today the force will not entertain such corrupt practices.

He says the alleged behaviour is totally unacceptable.

“That sort of behavior alleged is totally unacceptable and I was aware that that issue or allegation came to light while I was away I think last week. There’s a very active internal investigation going on in relation to that allegation and if we can produce enough evidence to act, we will act.”

The Police Commissioner adds he is in the process of developing an anti-corruption strategy for the RSIPF.

“I am currently in a process of developing a fraud and anti-corruption strategy for the RSIPF and bringing into place a range of measures to enhance our approach to dealing with corruption.”
