Strengthening community partnerships is vital to blood donation campaign in Solomon Islands.

The Director of the National Medical Laboratory, Alfred Dofai made the statement today at a press conference on World Blood Donor Day.

Mr Dofai said they want to preach three key messages concerning blood donation to people in the country.

“And we want to raise awareness to people in the community to be aware of the importance of blood donation and why they should donate and the second is during that event we will say thank you to those who keep on donating. We have a very small group who are faithful blood donors to save our people’s lives so we would like to thank them for the work they have done in terms of free donation, and thirdly is to strengthen our partnership with the community.”

The Director of the National Medical Laboratory also said strengthening community partnership is vital as blood cannot be imported but donated by members of the community.

“As you know blood is not something that we purchase or import overseas. We only access it from us the people in the community, so through Monday’s event we want to strengthen our participation with the community to strengthen the link between us so that the community can have the number to meet the hospital’s blood demand.”

World Blood Donor Day is annually commemorated on June 15.
