The Sumitomo Metal Mining Limited (SMM) strives to continue promoting sustainable co-existence with the society by respecting the needs of the local communities in which they operate.

SMM Managing Director Yoritoshi Ochi told SIBC News, this is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) since entering the country to prospect for nickel ore in 2005.

Director Ochi says in keeping up with its CSR obligation, SMM conducted the following activities in the last fiscal year.

“We have donated several $100,000 to the victims of the April floods in 2014. Also, we have donated dengue test kits to the National Referral Hospital. These kits can detect dengue immediately when a mosquito bites you. Another thing is support for the Honiara City Council and Guadalcanal Province, we donated 11,000 posters to help their “Stop Malaria” campaign.”

Mr Ochi  adds, a donation of 100 used drums to Choiseul and Isabel Provinces to assist them in Waster Management.
