Central Islands Provincial assembly has elected, Michael Salini as their new premier.
Speaker Francis Moore confirmed to SIBC News immediately after the election that Mr Salini polled 9 votes while the other candidate, Polycarp Galaigu polled 4 votes during the premier’s election today.
Mr Salini is the Member of Provincial Assembly for Tulagi ward Four (4) in Central Islands Province.
Speaker Francis Moore said the election was done in the afternoon after it was disrupted in the morning by a group of public demonstrators.
SIBC News understands the election for Premier has hit a deadlock yesterday after the provincial speaker suspended and rescheduled the election for today, citing a lack of an absolute majority to form the next provincial government.
Meanwhile, Mr Moore wishes the new government well and urged them to work together for the betterment of Central Islands province.
He also thanked the police in Tulagi for ensuring that the premier’s election was peaceful.
