SICCI WELCOMED OPENED OF NEW INTERNATIONAL WHARF
The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has welcomed the opening of the new international wharf.
SICCI says the new international wharf will help ease congestion at the ports by enabling goods and services to be quickly offloaded and loaded to vessels and reduce waiting time and costs to businesses and consumers.
It says the new wharf will have additional storage capacity.
It adds it is encouraging for its members to see the completion of a very important facility – the main gateway for imports and exports in and out of the country.
As the peak organisation representing the private sector, SICCI supports this important step in expanding the infrastructure of Honiara’s international port for cargo and tourist vessels visiting Honiara.
The new wharf is timely and encouraging for our economy especially when the movement of people, goods, and services with other countries has increased dramatically.
Meanwhile, the Chamber explains, in order to fully realise the benefits of the new wharf, SIPA must also be able to invest and build its internal capacity including having appropriate machinery such as container handing machines to fast-track stevedoring activities and, improving efficiency and delivery of services to port users.
