SIFF assists Government with two busses to support health workers
The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has responded to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s appeal to support Government efforts with two buses for logistics to contain the community transmission of COVID-19 in the capital Honiara.
In a statement this afternoon, SIFF said it will support the government with two buses, a 26 seat bus and a mini van with two drivers for the four-day lockdown to support the logistics needs of the health workers.
SIFF President William Lai said it’s time the national football governing body gives back to the community by supporting the national government in a time of need.
“I am pleased to convey our support to the government particularly the Ministry of Health & Medical Services in its effort to contain the spread of Covid,” Lai said.
“We believe football has a role to play in the fight against Covid since most people leaving in Honiara are football supporters, players and the football community as a whole is affected by the current community outbreak in Honiara.
“I believe our kind gesture in the form of transportation and logistics would provide a much-needed help to assist contain, control the virus and protect our people.”
Lai also called on all football players, referees, club officials and administrators to be vaccinated and follow health protocols and measures of Covid-19 in order to contain the virus.
Meanwhile, all football activities and national teams training have been suspended until feature notice.
