Solomon Ports commissions new state-of-the-art domestic seaport terminal building

The Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) has officially commissioned the country’s first ever Domestic Sea Port Passenger Terminal Building in Honiara today.

The  terminal, which is the largest in the Pacific region is fully funded by Solomon Ports with an investment of over 100 million dollars.

Speaking at the commissioning, Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele said the completion of the terminal marks a significant step in the country’s development.

” Today we are not simply opening a new infrastructure facility, we are unveiling a symbol of progress, a tangible manifestation of our collective ambition and a milestone that will forever change the way we connect with each other and the world around us.”

” This is a moment that ever Solomon Islander should cherish as it marks a significant step forward in our nations growth and development. This terminal represents much more than bricks and steel; it is a testament to our determination to the power of self reliance and to the resilience of the Solomon Islands.”

Meanwhile, SIPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Eranda Kotelawala acknowledged the team work displayed by the Port in the completion of the terminal project.

He said it is another great achievement for Solomon Ports.

” We are here today to celebrate the commissioning of the largest domestic domestic passenger terminal in the region; and the significance of this commissioning is it has been designed, built and funded by the Solomon Ports.

So it is a great achievement as a team. I must thank the board of directors, and the previous board for supporting this significant milestone and the great team behind me doing all this great work,” he said.

The new terminal building is a a three-storey building consisting of sitting areas, ticket offices, cafeterias, office spaces,  and other new features hoping to offer quality services for people travelling to the provinces .
