Solomons’ boxers ready for bouts at Pacific Mini Games
Boxers on the Solomon Islands team are preparing for their matches next week at the Pacific Mini Games with confidence.
Head coach Warren Pugeva said although most of the men are new, he thinks they will do well at the games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
“We just have the hope that we are going to have a good workout on that side,” Mr Pugeva said.
Most of the boxers were selected from the recent Solomon Games and have never fought in outside competitions.
The team has boxers competing in all weight classes except for the middleweight class, as that fighter was dropped because of disciplinary issues.
The nine fighters representing Solomon Islands will fly to Port Vila on Sunday. The preliminary bouts are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 12.
Competition in other sports at the Pacific Mini Games is underway.
