The Solomon Islands High Commission in Port Moresby denies allegations of misappropriation of funds for SIG sponsored students studying in various Papua New Guinea tertiary institutions.

The High Commission condemns a news article which portrays a negative image on a legitimate Solomon Islands diplomatic mission and its hardworking diplomats.

It explains, all transfer of funds allocated for the students tuition, allowances, and books deposited into the Education Account are confirmed.

The statement says from this account, the funds are released and disbursed according to advice and authorization of the National Training Unit under the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.

Meanwhile, the High Commission refutes the slanderous claim by a student from the Divine Word University on the Facebook Group Forum Solomon Islands International for misappropriation of education funds.

This also includes unsubstantiated allegations made via emails circulated among the DWU students for ‘pinching a portion’ of their allowances.

The High Commission explains the reasons for non-payment of full allowances for the concerned students were due to a shortfall in the allocated budget.
