SOLOMONS LOST OUT ON PIF’S TOP POST TO PNG
Solomon Islands has lost out to Papua New Guinea in the run for the region’s top executive post after Pacific Islands Forum Leaders elected Dame Meg Taylor to replace Tuiloma Neroni Slade as Secretary General of the Forum.
Solomon Islands candidate was Dr Jimmy Rodgers Bird, former Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community.
Pacific Islands News Association reports PNG’s Dame Meg Taylor beat four other candidates to become the first woman to head the region’s premier political organisation.
President of Palau and Forum Chair, Tommy Remengesau Junior told regional journalists after the Retreat on Thursday that Dame Taylor’s application received unanimous support.
He told journalists it was a unanimous decision in the Pacific Way.
