President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Solomon Islands.

In a letter to Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo, the Sri Lankan President says, he was deeply saddened of the loss of lives and properties caused by the devastating heavy rains and floods last month.

He says, the Government and people of Sri Lanka have jointly expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the Prime Minister, the Government and the people of Solomon Islands, and in particular, to the families of the bereaved and those who have been adversely affected by the natural disaster.

The Sri Lankan President adds, during this time of sadness and recovery, the thoughts and prayers of all Sri Lankans are with the people of Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Government through their High Commissioner accredited to Solomon Islands Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe has donated 50- Thousand US towards disaster relief efforts.

The donation was received on behalf of the Government by the Minister of Planning and Aid Coordination Connelly Sandakabatu.

In response to the donation, Minister Sandakabatu has thanked the Sri Lankan Government and her people for the assistance.
