SUPPORT FOR MATANIKO RIVER CLEAN UP

People of Tandai ward, West Guadalcanal have acknowledged the Development Waste Management and Pollution Programme which aims to clean up the neglected polluted Mataniko river.

Speaking on Behalf of the people, Acting Paramount Chief of Tandai ward, Onesimo Reinunu said addressing solid waste management is a foresight step taken by the Ministry of Environment and responsible authorities.

Mr Onesimo adds, Mataniko river is well known even to the outside world during and after World War 2 therefore it should be accorded the respect and pride as a place of historical significance.

He said it will be a great achievement for the Honiara City Council to see the Mataniko River dredged and its banks improved.
