Three male people accused of sorcery-related killing in Guadalcanal

Three people have admitted to have been responsible for the death of a person last week in northeast Guadalcanal in the latest sorcery-related killing allegation.

The three male persons are currently being held in protective custody at the Henderson Police Station for fear of retribution.
A Police statement this afternoon said the trio alleged to have carried out the killing last month, 17 October 2021 at Veravaolu village in Northeast Guadalcanal.
“The suspects will be kept for safety purposes, waiting for reconciliation to be done by parties of the deceased and the suspects,” Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga says.
He said the three male people admitted what they did during an initial hearing at Henderson Police Station.
“There were five witnesses who swore in and confirmed that the trio were responsible for the killing. The suspects then admitted that they were responsible for the death of the deceased on 5 November 2021,” says Chief Superintendent Uiga.
Both parties including five chiefs and legal representatives met for the hearing at Henderson Police Station to cause an enquiry into the matter.
PPC Alfred Uiga says Police are conducting an investigation into the suspects’ admission of the alleged sorcery killing.
“After the hearing, the chiefs have decided the penalties according to Guadalcanal custom the suspect’s side should give to the deceased family on the reconciliation day which was set to be held at Aola Police Station on 27 June 2022,” PPC Uiga said.
He strongly warned both parties to respect each other and not to take law into their own hands but respect the chief’s decision on this matter.
