UNDER 16 GIRL’s COMPETITION AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PROVINCES
The Solomon Islands Football Association Women’s Development Officer, Diane Justice has said the current under 16 Girl’s Championship tournament is to give an opportunity to players from the provinces.
The tournament which started last Saturday has attracted 11 girl’s soccer teams from Honiara, Guadalcanal, Malaita and Central Islands provinces.
Ms Justice told SIBC Sports the tournament is also an opportunity for the team’s coaches to identify players to join the Under 17 National Training Squad in preparing for the under 17 championships which will be hosted by OFC early next year.
“So this one-week competition is intended to give those in the provinces the opportunity to attend and also for the coaches can be able to identify potential players for the national under 17 training squad to prepare for another tournament next year at the OFC level and because it’s compulsory for every country in the Oceania we have to participate and because of that we would like to give the opportunity to the nearby provinces to be part of this at least for a start.”
Matches for the competition continues tomorrow.
