USA CONGRATULATES PRIME MINISTER MANASSEH SOGAVARE

The United States of America has congratulated Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare on his election as the country’s 12th Prime Minister yesterday.
In a congratulatory message through the US ambassador to Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, His excellency Walter North offers sincere congratulations on behalf of President Barrack Obama and the people of the United States to Prime Minister Sogavare.
His excellency North adds, in his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Sogavare recognized the challenges ahead and the need to work together with partners to address the aspirations of the people of Solomon Islands.
He says The United States looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with Solomon Islands through Prime Minister Sogavare’s new government.
Mr. North stressed the partnership between our nations is built on a foundation of shared values, deeply-rooted history, and mutual interests.
He adds, the United States seeks to further deepen this relationship through continued cooperation on a wide range of issues, including international security, economic development, human rights, and environmental protection, including addressing the challenges of climate change.
