WEST PAPUA SUPPORTERS TO STAGE PEACEFUL RALLY

The Solomon Islands Solidarity Group for West Papua will stage a peaceful rally tomorrow to demonstrate its support towards West Papua’s application to join the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

Rally Chair Ishmael Nori told SIBC News yesterday the rally is to show the Solomon Islands Government and regional leaders currently in the country of Solomon Islands support for West Papua’s freedom movement.

“The purpose of the rally is just to show them that Solomon Islands we stand behind West Papua Freedom Movement and we stand behind more especially on their application to be a member of the MSG.”

Ishmael Nori also highlighted a number of international advocators for West Papua will also take part in tomorrow’s the rally.

“The rally will also include friends from outside and it will include supporters from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Australia and even as far as the United Kingdom and the United States of America, especially those who are advocating for West Papua have shown interest to come over and show their support, so we will expect them to show support and part of the crowd for the day.”

SIBC News understands Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast announced approval for the rally at his media conference this morning.
