WHO DONATED HEALTH EMERGENCY KIT TO HONIARA NRH
The World Health Organisation has donated a health emergency kit to the National Referral Hospital to support the Solomon Islands address its major public health challenges.
WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Doctor Shin Young-soo, who visited Honiara on Thursday, donated the health kit, which is to replenish supplies that were used during the recent April floods.
A statement from the world health body said the emergency health kit is the first of five kits to be provided to Solomon Islands.
Each kit contains essential medicines, supplies and equipment designed to cover the health needs of 10-thousand people for three months.
Doctor Shin said the National Referral Hospital is in need of urgent assistance and the need must be addressed so that Solomon Islanders can receive the basic health services they require.
WHO is also working with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to carry out a safe hospital assessment – this includes a review of infrastructure, water, waste management and sanitation.
